Deep Ocean Search (DOS) are delighted to announce their involvement in the 2019 Weddell Sea Expedition.
DOS were chosen by Maritime Archaeology Consultants to provide specialist personnel to this expedition to conduct under-ice science missions and, ice cover permitting, to search for the wreck of Sir Ernest Shackleton‘s ship Endurance, which sank after being crushed by ice in 1916.
DOS’s vessel superintendent, Bob Ormerod, and members of the DOS team managed the mobilization of the ship which was selected for this programme, the Aghulas II ,a South African icebreaking polar supply and research ship chartered from the South African Department of Environmental Affairs. The ship left Cape Town on time on 6th December 2018 bound for the Antarctic base of Penguin Bukta.
DOS personnel chosen for this mission are Claire Samuel, who is the mission operations manager, Julien Trincali and Pierre Le Gall who are experienced Subsea surveyors.
As well as the science objectives, the mission also includes a strong emphasis on education and DOS are very pleased to be working with our friends from the Explorer Club of New York.
DOS will be providing mission updates from time to time.
